It is how we have been taught not to mind. Everything is a service now; stop paying and you're locked out of your own life. The same goes for hardware: ownership itself is becoming something you rent.
So I do what I can at my scale. I run my own servers, host friends and family, and trust open code over closed promises. It's a small proof that another way is still possible, and I think it can grow.
